Description
We are very excited to offer this fine and rare vintage two-register Vacheron Constantin Chronograph, ref. 4178, in 18K rose gold. This particular model is one of the most sought after vintage chronographs and dates to 1942.
A classic timepiece in all regards, the ref. 4178 features a mint original two-tone silver dial, with rose gold indexes and applied arabic numerals at the 12 & 6’o clock position. Dial shows some aging, which enhances the beauty of this magnificent timepiece. Original rose gold baton hands and blued chronograph hands.
The 18k rose gold, three-piece case measures a large 36mm in diameter, and features the distinctive and desirable lapidated tear drop lugs and rectangular chronograph pushers. Pure vintage!
The manual 17 jewel rhodium plated, fausses cotes decorated movement is the high grade caliber 434, elaborated from the venerable Valjoux 22, and adjusted to temperature. This chronograph caliber features column wheel construction. Movement is clean and running.
Incidentally, the ref. 4178 also served as a historic point of reference for the more recent "Les Historiques" collection by Vacheron Constantin. This watch is in overall mint condition.
