ROLEX CARTIER 6240 DAYTONA STEEL BOX & PAPERS

This is one of those watches that makes even the most seasoned watch collectors and watch dealers take some extra time, and a loupe, to savor. Unpolished steel case with Cartier’s serial number engraved on the lug. Full original box and papers set. It literally doesn’t get better than this. By far the rarest reference of all Daytonas, the 6240 is a transitional model that introduced the screw down chronograph pushers case. While the later screw down pusher references 6263 and 6265 are hard enough to find, the 6240 is a genuinely rare watch. This watch ups the ante with not only its original original box and papers set, but in particular for its Cartier co-signed dial. Original mint+ condition case is stainless steel with dimensions of 38mm diameter by 12.5mm thick. Plastic crystal. Screw down chronograph pushers and winding crown (all working great). Original bezel has black “Units per Hour” scale from ‘50’ to ‘200’. Inside caseback is stamped ‘6241’. Serial number 1439XXX dates production to 1966. The Cartier serial number 22X is engraved on the back of the 7 o’clock lug. Original untouched black Rolex Oyster Cosmograph Cartier dial is also a Sigma dial. Applied white gold hour markers. Contrasting silver subdials with concentric guilloche. Original movement is the manual winding Rolex Caliber 72 with 17 jewels and adjusted to three positions. This caliber features column wheel construction – by far the superior chronograph caliber construction ever made. Movement is in pristine condition and is running. Bracelet is Rolex riveted Oyster with 12 links and is in mint condition. This is a highly collectable and important vintage Rolex Daytona, as well as being a highly collectable Cartier collectable in its own right.
