Of all of the Daytona references, model 6240 is by far the rarest and most collectable. Introducing the screw-down chronograph pushers, it was available in limited quantities in 1965 in tandem with the 6239/6241 pump-pusher models-both utilizing the Valjoux 722 movement. This watch is one of the earliest observed 6240 Daytonas. Original stainless steel case is 37mm diameter by 14mm thick, with black bezel with Units per Hour scale, domed plastic crystal, screw down crown and screw down chronograph pushers. Case is clean and mint. Serial number 1297XXX dates production to 1965. Original, untouched, clean and mint black three color Paul Newman dial. The absence of the word ‘OYSTER’ is consistent with both 1965 and normal non-PN dials for this reference. This can be considered the earliest—or first generation screw-down Paul Newman dial models. Original manual winding Rolex Caliber 722-1 with 17 jewels and adjusted in three positions, with column wheel construction, pristine and running well. Rolex riveted link Oyster bracelet.
