Description
Writing about so many beautiful watches is no easy thing to do. It's not the writing or selling part that is difficult; it's not giving into temptation to wear the watches! I see lots of great timepieces, and while many catch my eye, not many tempt me enough to actually put it into my collection. This Patek 5040 is just such a temptation. It's just really, really nice. It's also an uncommon reference.
While everything about this perpetual calendar is nice, for me the nicest aspect is the case. It's a perfectly proportioned, perfectly sized tonneau shape. Dimensions are 41mm long by 35mm wide by 8.5mm thick. It's an eminently wearable size, and fits easily under shirt cuffs. Sapphire crystals front and rear.
Caliber 240 Q with 22k mini-rotor for automatic winding; 27 jewels; 46 hour power reserve. Caliber has 275 individual parts and is stamped with the Geneva Seal. This is the same movement that Patek’s venerable reference 3940 used and it is one of those rare, perfect machines.
This is the rare silver Breguet dial. Examples of this model with black dials abound, but they don’t look half as nice as the Breguet dial! Dial has the following displays: day and 24 hour indicators at 9 o'clock; month and leap year indicator at 3 o'clock; moonphase and date indicators at 6 o'clock.
Strap is black Patek crocodile with 18k white gold deployment clasp.
