Description
Rolex GMT reference 16578 in 18k with 18k Rolex Jubilee bracelet. This is a transitional GMT. The 16758 model introduced the sapphire crystal to the GMT line, and also features a quick-set date (a short lived attribute). Rolex soon after dropped the quick set date, opting instead to introduce the GMT Master II with its quick set hour hand instead. This is a rare GMT. It is an especially desirable watch because of its original black dial having faded uniformly to a brown-gray hue, which is very attractive.
Case is 18k with dimensions of 40mm diameter by 12mm thick. Screw down crown and sapphire crystal. Original 18k bezel with original black insert. Serial number 8370XXX dates watch to 1984.
Color change dial is in great condition with applied tritium hour markers and with date at 3 o’clock. This is a so-called “Nipple dial” because of the shape of the hour markers.
Movement is the Rolex automatic Caliber 3075 with 27 jewels, quick set date and 24 hour hand for second time zone tracking. Movement is clean and running.
Bracelet is 18k Rolex Jubilee with invisible clasp.
