Description

The Patek Philippe Nautilus is the archetypal luxury sport watch. It invented a whole new physical form of wristwatch, with its integrated bracelet, oversized bezel, and thinness for being a water resistant sports watch. The Nautilus also put into play a high price tag for a stainless steel watch, which was formerly reserved for gold wristwatches. The Nautilus celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2006, which was the occasion for the introduction of this reference 5712/A Nautilus with power reserve, moonphases, date and eccentrically positioned subsidiary seconds dial. The stainless steel case measures 42.8mm wide by 44mm long by 9mm thick. The front and display back crystals are sapphire. The bezel is shaped, for lack of a better description, like a square with soft corners. It is flat across the top with a brush finish, and with beveled sides which have a polished finish. The crown screws down and is also buried deeply into its protective shoulders. The legendary Nautilus bracelet is an integral component and extension of the watch case, and features links that are both brushed and polished, and very supple. The bracelet features a fold-over security clasp. The 5712’s case is water resistant to 60 meters. As nice as the famous Nautilus case is, the dial is something special too. The color is grey blue and features applied luminous hour markers and luminous hands. The moonphases disk is dark blue with a golden moon and stars. There are also little splashes of red on the dial: the ‘1’ on the date scale and the first four positions in the power reserve scale. Movement is the automatically winding Patek Philippe Caliber 240 PS with 29 jewels, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, a solid gold micro-rotor, is adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions and is stamped with the ultra-prestigious Geneva Seal.
