Description
No crown guard Submariners, which have come to be called “James Bond” Subs after a famous screen appearance, are by far the most collectable Submariners. Considering that back in the 1950s when Submariners were strictly tool watches worn and used by divers, the condition of this 6536 is clean and mint.
Original stainless steel case is in mint+ condition with full fat lugs. The case edges are sharp with bevels intact. Original bezel turns as it should and the bezel insert is clean with the exception of a few marks at the 17 minute position. Screw down crown works perfectly. Domed plastic crystal is clean. Serial number 306XXX dates production to 1957. Inside case back has date code of ‘III 57’ and is marked ‘6536/1’.
Original black dial with gilt print and chapter ring. The patina on the hour markers is uniform and very pleasing to the eye.
Original automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1030 movement with 25 jewels and adjusted to five positions and temperature. Movement has “butterfly” rotor of that period and the movement is perfectly clean and running well.
Rolex riveted Oyster bracelet with ‘4 60’ date code is pristine with zero stretch.
