Description
The reference 1655 is the first Explorer II, which was designed for cave explorers. The orange hand makes one sweep of the dial every 24 hours, allowing the wearer to keep on a day/night schedule even in a complete absence of light. For me, the best thing about the 1655 is that no other Rolex looks like it. For such an important vintage Rolex, these watches are still comparatively inexpensive and offer an excellent entry into the exciting world of vintage Rolex watches.
Original stainless steel case measures 38mm diameter by 13.8mm thick. Original Mark 2 bezel is clean and the case overall is in exceprional condition with full lugs with crisp bevels. Crystal is plastic. Original screw down crown operates perfectly. Serial number 4067XXX dates production to 1974.
Original Mark 2 black dial is perfect. Hands are original and in mint condition. The luminous in the hands and hour markers match in patina. The patina is just the right color, not too white and not too dark.
Original movement is the 26 jewel automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1575, which is adjusted to five positions and temperature. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. Condition is clean and running.
Rolex riveted Oyster in near mint condition. The watch is in mint+ condition.
