Description
The world of watches is enormous, from cheap plastic digital watches to Haute Horology Grand Complications and everything in between. I have to say, when all is said and done, a vintage Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is ultimately the perfect watch. It’s certainly the archetypal chronograph aesthetically, and it wears as comfortably as if it were a mere hologram. And I dare say, time has amply demonstrated that a vintage Daytona is also an excellent investment.
The subdials on this watch have faded in color from the original black to a uniform brown. This effect in vintage watch speak, when a black dial or subdial changes from black to brown, is called “tropical”. These chocolate brown subdials on the original champagne dial makes this dial both beautiful and very collectable.
Original 18k case measures 38mm diameter by 13mm thick. The crystal is plastic. Original bezel is clean with sharp edges. Original black bezel insert contrasts beautifully with the gold case. The original screw down crown and round pump style chronograph pushers are working as they should and the chronograph hands reset accurately and crisply to their zero positions. Case is in mint original condition. Serial number 2357XXX dates production to late 1969, making this an early production 6264. The 6264 is considered to have been made for approximately one year: 1970.
Original movement is the manual winding Rolex Caliber 727 with 17 jewels and is adjusted in 3 positions. The movement features column wheel construction and is immaculately clean and running.
Bracelet is the Rolex riveted Oyster in mint condition.
