Description
Certainly, none of the Paul Newman Daytona variants is more desirable today than this John Player Special. The nickname John Player Special is derived from the cigarette brand of the same name, with its black and gold packaging. In 1985 Ayrton Senna won a Formula One race in a Team Lotus race car sporting the black and gold and the John Player Special logo. This black and gold Paul Newman dial, which is absolutely striking, is known in the nomenclature as a John Player Special.
It should be noted at the outset that this 6241 in 18k gold is immaculate and original. This really is a Grail and Dream watch.
Fewer than 300 model 6241 Daytonas were made in 18k; only a handful of these were fitted with a Paul Newman dial.
Original untouched Paul Newman John Player Special black and gold dial is original and untouched and in perfect condition with applied indices in the outer minutes and seconds chapter with intact original luminous dots.
Case is 18k with 38mm diameter, black bakelite bezel insert, plastic crystal, round pump-style chronograph pushers and screw-down crown, all of which are original and functioning perfectly. Case is in mint+ condition and appears unpolished.
Movement is the manual winding Rolex Caliber 722-1 with 17 jewels and column wheel construction. Movement is pristine and running.
Rolex 18k riveted Oyster bracelet, in mint+ condition just like the watch, and with zero stretch.
