Description
I love modern Patek Philippe watches inspired by legendary vintage models. In this instance, this split-seconds chronograph reference 5370 is a modernized and improved interpretation of the model 1436. Patek said upon the 2015 introduction of the 5370 that very few watches will be produced due to the complexity and cost of making the watch. It’s no wonder, considering the deeply black enamel dial and Patek Philippe Caliber CHR 29-535, both of which are produced in-house by Patek.

The platinum case is at once very vintage inspired, but with modern touches. Contrasting mirror and brush finished surfaces complement each other perfectly. The brushing on the sides of the rectangular chronograph pushers is subtle but a wonderful testament to how attuned Patek is to the details of production. Large front and back bezels, both holding sapphire crystals. The split-seconds button is built into the center of the winding crown. Unlike the 1436 split-seconds model from decades ago, the case sides are slightly recessed. However, like the 1436, the lugs hold the strap by means of strap bars, which terminate with cabochons.

5370P trivia: this watch was designed by Thierry Stern’s wife Sandrine.

Most impressive is the deeply black enamel dial. There are black dials and then there is this black dial. The dial plate is a solid plate of white gold, upon which is baked the black enamel. Being enamel, the color will not fade in time and will retain its beautiful glossy blackness. Beautiful white gold Breguet numerals, tachymetre scale, luminous minutes and hour hands and dual chronograph hands. Dial is signed “EMAIL” beneath 6 o’clock designating that the dial is, in fact, enamel.

The manual winding movement is exquisitely constructed and finished and features the following technical specifications: 312 parts, up to 65 hour power reserve, Gyromax balance, 34 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour and stamped with the Patek Philippe Seal.

Black Patek alligator strap with platinum deployment clasp.

Watch is new with second solid case back, hang tag, box and papers.
