More than six decades ago, captain Robert Maloubier and his men known as the frogmen of the Nageurs de combat, were in need of a reliable timepiece to wear while carrying out their missions in the 1950’s. Without any luck, Captain Maloubier drafted up sketches that would become the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. After the watch’s release in 1953, the watch would be issued by the militaries of Israel, Germany and the United States among others.
The all-original steel case measures 41.5mm in diameter and 13.5mm thick. Original dial has a beautiful patina to the lumes. Moisture indicator above the 6 o'clock position. Bezel is acrylic and in immaculate condition. Minute indicators around the bezel with a 15, 30, 45 numerical configuration with inverted triangle at the 60. Lugs are flawless with almost no signs of wear.
Watch runs great with an automatic winding A. Schild Caliber 1361 movement with 17 jewels.
A striking example of one of, if not the most sought after and desirable military wristwatches ever produced.
