The Cartier Tank is Cartier’s most iconic timepiece. First originated in 1917, this watch was created to pay tribute to the Renault FT-17, a French tank used in WWI. The first prototype was given to U.S general John Pershing in 1918. An excellent watch that has been worn by movie legends such as Clark Gable and Fred Astaire to many First Ladies. Even Andy Warhol has stated this was his favorite watch.
Two-body 18k white gold rectangular curved case measures 27x45mm in dimension. Case is polished and brushed and features enlarged sides, octagonal sapphire-set crown and caseback is secured by eight screws. 18k white gold bracelet and deployment buckle are in fantastic condition. The crystal is sapphire and the case, dial and movement are signed.
Easy to read silver guilloche dial with black Arabic numerals and Cartier’s secret signature at the VII. Inner railway minute divisions and center seconds with date window above the 6 o’clock.
Movement for this watch is the Automatic Cartier Caliber 200 featuring 20 jewels. Watch is water resistant to 50 meters.
