The Cartier Rotonde 'Ours Polaire', in Plique-a-jour-Paillonne enamel is THE illustration of Cartier’s inherent sense of creative craftsmanship. As part of their Cartier d’Art collection, its Plique-a-jour-Paillonne dial is of such interest and beauty. Cartier first offered items showcasing this technique at the beginning of the 20th century. Starting off as a simple metal frame, colour is mixed and ground by hand until fine enough to be used for openwork enamel. The finished piece is a dial depicting a polar bear beneath the night sky. Tiny flakes of silver are coated with a thin layer of enamel as little stars in the sky.
Case measures 43mm in diameter and in 18k white gold with a cabochon sapphire-set crown with 18k white gold folding clasp. The movement is the Caliber 9601MC manual wind lever movement featuring 20 jewels.
A truly special watch to have in any collection. Limited to 40 pieces made and is in mint condition.
