Description
If you love chronographs like we do, you already know about the legendary IWC Top Gun pilot’s chronograph. Emblazoned on the back with a badge signed “UNITED STATES NAVY TOP GUN FIGHTER WEAPONS SCHOOL”, this 46mm black ceramic case Split Seconds chronograph is a very cool timepiece. The left case side has “TOP GUN” engraved.
Massive sapphire crystal with matte black purpose-built dial beneath. The entire watch is matte finished so as to create no glare to blind or distract the actual Navy pilots who wear the watch. Blue luminous hands and markers in the cardinal positions. Day and date display at 3 o’clock. Subdials display chronograph running 30 minute and 12 hour totalizers as well as running seconds. Double center seconds hands for the split seconds function, which is also known as a Double Chronograph and Rattrapante. This is considered one of the high complications in watchmaking.
IWC is well-known for over-engineering their movvements and this one is no exception. The IWC Caliber 79230 is automatic winding and has a 44 hour power reserve.
