Gerald Genta hit a home run when designing the Nautilus. Basing the design from a ships porthole, the Nautilus 3700 was large in size for its time, even larger than the famous AP Royal Oak, also designed by Genta and released just a few years earlier. The success that followed the Nautilus after its release in 1976 was not only outstanding but remarkably unforeseen.
The 18k gold and stainless steel case is in immaculate condition and measures 41mm wide by 45mm long and is approx 8mm thick. Crystal on this watch is sapphire. Patek introduced the Nautilus as a sports watch to fill a void in their model line. The case is water resistant to 120 meters.
Original and untouched black dial is with horizontal channeling, applied golden hour markers with luminous, and date at the 3 o'clock. Notice the sigma marks on either side of the “SWISS”, this is indicative of the early 3700 models.
Movement for this watch is the automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber 28 255C with 36 jewels, adjusted to 5 positions and heat/cold, and stamped with the Geneva Seal. The movement features a free-sprung balance and an 18k rotor segment for increased winding efficiency.
This is an incredibly important vintage Patek Philippe and a must have for any serious collector to have in their collection.
