Description
The Patek Philippe reference 5050 is Patek’s rarest and most collectable perpetual calendar wristwatch. It was also the first Patek perpetual to sell for over $100,000 at auction. Its retrograde date display with three apertures for the calendar made its debut on the 5050 – a design which went on to be used for subsequent perpetual calendar models and Patek’s epic reference 5016 grand complication.
Unpolished case is 18k rose gold with screw down back and dimensions of 36mm diameter by 11.5mm thick. This case has very clean, traditional lines and is free of any design embellishments. The front crystal is slightly domed sapphire and the display back crystal is flat sapphire.
Dial is silver with applied golden hour markers and feuille hands. Blued sweep center seconds which is very rare on a perpetual calendar. The date is displayed on the retrograde scale which traverses the arc from 8 o'clock to 4 o'clock. Day is displayed in the aperture at 9 o'clock, leap year in the aperture under 12 o'clock, and month in the 3 o'clock aperture. Moonphase is displayed in the 6 o'clock subdial with “AUTOMATIC” text.
Movement is the automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber 315/136 with 31 jewels, beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, a 21k winding rotor, 46 hour power reserve and the Geneva Seal attestetation of superiority.
Watch is in like new condition with box and papers.
