The Beta 21 movement was the fruit of a collaborative effort spanning from 1962 through 1969, which was sponsored by over 20 leading Swiss watch brands, and named the Centre Electronique Horloger. The resulting movement was introduced at the 1970 Basel Fair, and was put into watches by various brands. Each brand was apportioned their quantity of movements based on their commensurate financial support for the Centre Electronique Horloger project. The movement itself has 13 jewels, quartz standardization and was named the Caliber XP4 by Piaget. Yves Piaget proudly and personally presented the Beta 21 watches that Piaget was apportioned to his friends as a gifts. Piaget did not make many Beta 21 watches and the extent of their production was in 18k yellow gold. This 18k white gold version on fine mesh bracelet is as rare as it is beautiful, with its original and untouched grey dial. The 18k white gold Galbe style case measures 41mm long by 33.5mm wide by 9.4mm thick. Case is highlighted by its two-tiered stepped bezel. Crystal is sapphire. Impressively, the movement holder ring inside is solid 18k gold (whereas 99% of watches with a movement ring use a base metal ring to save money, even from high-end manufacturers). You can tell this is an important watch to Piaget from this gold movement ring. Original grey dial with subtle sunburst brush finish and signed, simply, PIAGET SWISS. It’s better to keep such a nice dial uncluttered. Original baton hands. Original 18k white gold finely woven mesh bracelet with folding deployment clasp. Piaget’s model number for this watch is 14101.
