Description
I'll get to the history of this model in just a bit. First, I want to mention the amazing moonphase display on this awesome watch. The moonphase display on a conventional movement calculates the lunar cycle as taking 29.5 days. The moonphase display on the 1815 calculates the lunar cycle as being 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 3 seconds. The result of this exact calculation is a moonphase display which will be off by only one day over the next 1058 years!!

The A Lange Sohne 1815 Moon Phase watch is an hommage to Emil Lange, and the caseback is engraved as such. This is a limited edition, in platinum, of 150 watches, and this is watch number 14X / 150. Emil Lange was the second son of the company's founder Adolph Lange. Emil Lange went on to manage the company for 40 years, from 1875 until 1915. Under his stewardship, A Lange & Sohne grew from being a German market firm to an international company. This watch was produced to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Emil Lange's birth.

The case of this watch is platinum with dimensions of 36mm by 8mm thick. Sapphire crystals front and back.

Dial is black with a depiction of the Big Dipper constellation formed from applied platinum dots. To further the astronomical theme, the '3', '6' and '9' hour markers are applied stars. The moonphase is adjacent to 8 o'clock. Off center subsidiary seconds dial. The dial is solid silver.

Movement is the manual winding A Lange Sohne Caliber L943.1 with 26 jewels and a power reserve of 45 hours.

Finding a platinum 1815 Moon Phase is a monumental task. Leading auction houses have auctioned only the rose gold versions in recent years.

This watch is new old stock with box and papers.
