Description
When you think about modern Corum watches, you picture in your mind a high-end fashion watch -- mechanically competent and lots of fun. However, up through the end of the 1990s, Corum was producing a series of ultra high end watches in very limited production. This is a new old stock minute repeater, and it is spectacular.

The movement is a collaboration between Christophe Claret and Renaud Papi. Technical details include 36 hour power reserve, 32 rubies, balance with compensation screws, 18,000 beats per hour, and Incabloc shock resistant system. Finishing is exemplary and understated. You can see the repeater hammer striking the chimes through the display back crystal. This is a manually winding caliber. Renaud Papi is the same company that produces the complicated movements for Audemars Piguet and, it's rumored, Richard Mille. Christophe Claret is a freelance caliber designer, regarded as the best in the industry.

The watch case is 18k white gold with dimensions of 38mm diameter by 11.5mm thick. Sapphire front and display back crystals. The case is hunter style, meaning there is a white gold case back which is hinged to light up to reveal the display back. The lugs are tiered, and the bezel is massive. The overall fit and finish of the case is remarkable.

The dial is very rich in detail, with variously brushed, polished and guilloche surfaces. Of course, the most striking aspect is the cutout, which permits viewing the internal working of the caliber. Close examination of the cutout section reveals that the ring which contains the hour roman numerals chapter, and the outermost minutes chapter, are left continuous and intact, with a smaller cutaway area between them.

This whole watch is very high quality, with the most elite horological bonafides, and the attention to and execution of details is amazing and somewhat understated. Truly among the finest of Swiss watchmaking.

The retail price of this watch was $170,000 and production was limited to 10 pieces in white gold. This watch is in the middle range of the production. Watch is new old stock (meaning a new watch from a discontinued model reference) with hangtag, box and papers.
