Description
The F.P. Journe Souverain Tourbillon in platinum is an important watch from one of the all time great commercial watchmakers. Calling Mr. Journe an all time great is really saying something, since his brand is only a little than a decade old. Be that as it may, Francois Paul Journe is a true master who has achieved remarkable and meaningful innovation in so many of his timepieces. The Souverain Tourbillon is one of his early and greatest watches.
Movement incorporates a constant force remontoir and a one minute tourbillon. Movement features rhodium plating, 25 jewels, self compensating free-sprung balance with four timing weights and Phillips terminal curve. The remontoir is controlled by a spinning vane, which is empowered every second by the mainspring, which provides a perfectly evened out power supply to the balance assembly. This is an esoteric and advanced system for optimizing the running rate of the movement and, theoretically in tandem with the one minute tourbillon, should provide as close to zero deviation and zero error timekeeping as possible from a mechanical movement. This movement bears the caliber number 1498.
Dial is solid 18k yellow gold finished to a champagne color. At the top of the dial is a power reserve indicator. On the right side is a subdial with guilloche finishing that displays the hours and minutes. At the bottom of the dial is a cutout which shows the remontoir, which is mounted to a steel bridge, which is mounted on the dial surface. The tourbillon is at 9 o'clock, also mounted on the dial on a steel bridge. As the tourbillon rotates, the attached 'A' shaped frame, which terminates in a point, displays seconds along the chapter ring which surrounds the tourbillon dial aperture.
Case is solid platinum with dimensions of 38mm diameter by 9.5mm thick. Sapphire crystals front and back. Crown is engine turned with a cordes de Marseille pattern.
