Description
The Hublot Big Bang chronograph is a really nice watch with a cutting edge look, which reflects the watch's adoption of a fusion approach to both its design and construction. This particular model blends 18k red gold case with stainless steel and other materials, including a ceramic bezel, a carbon fiber dial and rubber strap. Even the movement is a collaboration between a Swiss boutique and a Swiss behemoth.
The watch case on this outstanding chronograph is 44.5mm diameter by 16mm thick. The bezel is ceramic. The case sides are PVD treated kevlar and black in color. The crown and chronograph pushers are 18k red gold. Kevlar, titanium and aluminum are all used in the case, along with the steel, gold and ceramic. The case has crisp edges, and alternating brushed and polished surfaces. The crown and chrono pushers have natural rubber inserts. Sapphire front and display back crystals. The heads of the screws used to secure the bezel are "H" shaped. Water resistant to 100 meters.
Dial is black carbon fiber with applied red gold arabic numerals and hour markers, luminous and skeletonized hands, red dial highlights and a date display at 4 o'clock. The dial has a 30 minute and 12 hour chronograph totalizer.
Movement is designed by La Joux Perret and manufactured by ETA. Automatic winding with a black skeletonized tungsten rotor. The movement also features 27 jewels and a 42 hour power reserve. In my opinion, this is a manufacture caliber, since Hublot is the only firm that can use this state of the art movement.
Strap is rubber and very supple. The inside of the strap is smooth while the outside features a texture that matches the carbon fiber pattern on the dial.
