Description
The Patek Philippe reference 5050 is the most collectable of all moden Patek perpetual calendars. There are two dial versions - romans and sticks. The roman numeral dial is significantly rarer than the stick version. This is an important watch, whose beauty is matched only by its collectability.
Case is polished 18k rose gold with dimensions of 35.5mm diameter by 11.5mm thick. This case has very clean, traditional lines and is free of any design embellishments. The front crystal is slightly domed sapphire and the display back crystal is flat sapphire.
Dial is solid gold and silver plated. Applied rose gold hour markers and leaf style hands. The date is displayed on the retrograde scale which traverses the arc from 8 o'clock to 4 o'clock. Day is displayed in the aperture at 9 o'clock, leap year in the aperture under 12 o'clock, and month in the 3 o'clock aperture. Moonphase is displayed above 6 o'clock.
I have to make a personal observation about the dial: there is a warmth and richness to this dial which is extremely pleasing.
Movement is the automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber 315/136 with 31 jewels, beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, a 21k winding rotor, 46 hour power reserve and the Geneva Seal attestetation of superiority.
Strap is a Patek crocodile with 18k rose gold Patek deployant buckle.
