Description
This vintage Submariner is so nice that it hurts... so called Maxi Dial 5513s are rare birds indeed, produced only in 1978/79, and it's likely only a few exist. Rolex used several dial suppliers during that period, and some variation exists between the dials from each supplier, and variation exists between dials from the same suppliers over time. Such is how the Maxi Dial came to be, one supplier used larger hour markers and put them closer to the minute hash marks. Nowadays, these dials are highly sought after by collectors.
Case number 54867XX dates this watch to 1978/79.
Original stainless steel case is 39mm diameter. Domed acrylic crystal. Original bezel and Trip Lock crown both operating normally. Look closely at the pictures below; I believe the case has never been polished. Look at the sharpness of the shoulders/bevelling and the lugs -- perfect.
Original automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1520 movement is very clean and operating strongly.
Of course it's the original dial and hands that make this watch absolutely killer.
