Description
A. Lange & Sohne is at the highest level of horological craft. One need only look at the calibers in their complicated watches, which are not only intriguing but are art by any standard. Indeed, the decision to wear your watch movement side up or dial side up is a real consideration!
This is the last word in complicated chronographs: the A. Lange & Sohne Double Split. What makes this chronograph groundbreaking is the ability for the rattrapante, or split seconds, chronograph to measure two events for a duration of up to 30 minutes, whereas ordinary split seconds chronographs can only time to events up to 60 seconds.
The A. Lange & Sohne Caliber L001.1 is so amazing, in so many ways, that Lange should just case it in a transparent acrylic case and forget about the dial, hands and everything else. The caliber is manual winding with 40 jewels and beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour. Each and every part is hand finished, and in most cases, decorated, also by hand. The bridges are made from German silver and all feature tradition German decoration and chamfered and polished edges. The rattrapante mechanism is visible through the display back. The movement features dual column wheels and is hand adjusted and regulated in 5 positions. Please refer to the movement pictures below. The caliber is multi-tiered and has a depth I have never seen previously.
Dial is black with 30 minute totalizer subdial with two hands - one for each rattrapante seconds hand. Applied white gold roman numerals and indices. Power reserve meter below 12 o'clock.
Case is solid platinum with dimensions of 43.2mm diameter by 15mm thick. Sapphire crystals front and back.
Super high quality black crocodile strap with platinum Lange tang clasp.
