Remember the Coo Coo for Cocoa Puffs commercial? Well, I go crazy for vintage Rolex Day Dates with offbeat dials. Here is a great older President in 18k whilte gold with an early black diamond pie-pan dial. This is a really great looking watch!
Case # 73498X dates the watch to the 1960s. Rolex automatic Caliber 1555, a variant of the 15XX series movements, which to this day are some of the best ever serially produced automatic movements.
This is a "pie pan" dial, meaning that the outermost milimeter or so of the dial slopes down and away. This sloping, in conjunction with the tall applied diamond hour markers, creates a marked depth to the dial to wonderful effect. This is an early and original Rolex factory diamond dial.
