Description
Here is a really charming vintage watch from Vacheron Constantin that dates to the 1940s. Featuring a rectangular, 14k rose gold case with hooded lugs and a beautiful two-tone gold color dial with applied markers and gorgeous dauphine hands. Case dimensions of this watch are 35.5mm long (including the brancard) by 19mm wide by 7.2mm thick. In its day, this was a man's size watch but today it's more of a unisex style. In fact, I think this watch would look quite becoming on a woman's wrist.
Case is 14 rose gold and is very unusual thanks to the hooded lugs (meaning where the strap attaches to the case is covered), which I have never seen before. The case, along with the rest of the watch is completely original and exceptionally clean and mint.
Movement is a clean and original manual winding Vacheron Constantin caliber with 17 jewels and adjusted to temperature variations. While less prestigious watch manufacturers would place round watch movements into formed cases, the elite firms used movements designed for each style case. You can see in the picture below that the movement in this watch is also rectangular.
Dial is original and untouched. It's just beautiful! This two-tone gold motif is often referred to as a "Havana" dial. Vacheron Constantin had no such pretensions, however. Between the applied hour markers, dauphine hands, sunken rectangular seconds subdial and the rectangular railroad style minutes chapter around the periphery of the dial, this dial is something special.
In my opinion, this is a museum quality wristwatch.
