Description
It's the esoterica that excites collectors, and while this watch appears at first glance to be a beautiful, if ordinary, Datejust, it's actually a collector's piece. The market for vintage Rolex watches is awash in monikers: the "Paul Newman" Daytona; "Steve McQueen" Explorer; "Maxi-Dial" 5513; "Pattrizi" and "Tropical" dials, and also "transitional" models. This watch is actually a transitional Datejust, which most collectors don't even know exists.
Production of this watch dates to 1982. Case number is 76114XX.
The Datejust reference 16030 introduced the Rolex automatic winding Caliber 3035 with quickset date and 27 jewels. The Caliber 3035 was quickly replaced by the caliber 3135, which is still used in Datejusts produced today. The Caliber 3035 is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
Case is stainless steel with 36mm diameter. Bezel is fluted stainless steel. Acrylic crystal. Screw down crown and caseback provide water resistance to 100 meters. Case is extra mint and appears unpolished.
Dial is black with golden hour markers and date with cyclops lens.
Bracelet is a Rolex Jubilee reference 62510H. The bracelet is very tight and has no stretch. This may be a replacement Rolex bracelet.
This watch is original and very clean in all respects.
