Description
As more and more Rolex collectors around the world turn their attention to vintage Rolex watches, the nicer and more interesting pieces are getting snapped up and put away. This is particularly true about the "pyramid" or more immodestly "nipple" dialed sports watches. This is true for your author as well; I love the nipple dial GMTs and Submariners. Overall, this piece is very clean and crisp and running strong.
Case is 18k yellow gold and is massive at 39.5mm diameter by 13mm thick. That's a lot of gold, and on the solid 18k Rolex Jubilee bracelet this watch is a heavy, masculine timepiece. Acrylic crystal and screw-down crown which is operating perfectly. Caseback has a small impression. Water resistant to 100 meters. Case features its full metal and is in overall mint+ condition.
Dial is all original black with the aforementioned "nipple" style hour markers. Hands are original to the watch. These hour markers just look so much more elegant than the modern luminous dot markers, especially on the 18k models. Dial is in original and perfect condition.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels. This movement is as clean as the day it left the factory, and running strong.
Bracelet is an original Rolex Jubilee model in solid 18k yellow gold with vintage clasp with the Rolex Coronet. Bracelet will comfortably fit up to an 8 inch wrist.
Case number 59770XX dates production to 1979.
This is an excellent example of a desirable 1675 GMT in 18k gold.
