Veteran Patek Philippe collectors will be rubbing their eyes looking at this auction's pictures, to make sure they are not "seeing things" - a 2526 with a black dial is exceedingly rare.
The Patek Philippe 2526 is an important and historical watch as it contains Patek's first automatic winding movement - the Caliber 12-600 AT. History is important, and while the importance of this wristwatch will impress collectors, its looks will impress you and everyone else. This 18k yellow gold case measures 36mm in diameter by 12mm thick. The crystal is domed and this watch also features a screwback, an early implementation of a now widely used case construction for the purpose of moisture resistance. The crown is signed with the older style, which I like a great deal, back-to-back 'P's for "Patek Philippe".
The reference 2526 was introduced in 1953, and only 480 pieces were produced in yellow gold. This example is a third series 2526, and one of only a very few (fewer than ten, most likely) with a black enamel dial.
The original black enamel dial features applied gold hour markers, subsidiary seconds dial and beautiful dauphine hands.
Again, the reference 2526 contains Patek Philippe's first automatic winding movement, the Caliber 600 AT with 30 jewels, self-compensating Breguet balance spring, adjusted to 5 positions and temperature, gold winding rotor with hand guilloche and stamped with the Geneva Seal.
Condition of the watch is mint. Watch will be delivered with Extract from the Archives and box.
