Description
We rarely add pocket watches to our showcase, as our forte and true passion are wrist watches. However, when something special comes along, such as this fine vintage Patek Philippe 18k pocket watch, it is difficult even for us to say no.
This exquisite timepiece has all the attributes, we've come to admire about vintage watches, particularly Pateks.
The original glossy black dial with gold accents are truly of timeless beauty, and remind us, why black dials have remained their status as king of dials over the decades; no detail gets lost on a black dial, also, fewer watches are usually made with black dials, which makes (most of) them more desirable, and valuable to the collector.
This elegant watch dates to the 1950's, and due to its rather moderate size of 45 mm in diameter, it bears a striking resemblance with a Patek Philippe Calatrava. It is easy to imagine, that this watch was probably manufactured in accord with a similar looking wristwatch by the same maker.
The fantastic, original gloss black dial features bullet style applied gold markers, dauphine hands, subsidiary dial with gold accents all of which are delicately surrounded by a gold minute track. The timeless beauty of the dial is further embraced by a stepped 3-piece case in 18k yellow gold, and features a flat case back, and domed acrylic crystal.
The manual wind movement is signed Patek Philippe, and in beautifully finished, as one would expect only from Patek. Overall condition is mint and original!
