I've made the same assertion every time we put a complicated Jaeger LeCoultre watch on eBay.... these watches should cost more! It's not a function of desirability of the watches, on the contrary; the problem is that Jaeger LeCoultre assigns retail prices that reflect neither the status nor superior quality of the watches. You would need to pay 10 times more to own a minute repeater from Patek Philippe, than this rare and beautiful Reverso Minute Repeater in 18k rose gold. This is a limited edition watch of 500 watches and this is watch number 21X.
Rectangular case is 18k rose gold and is a Reverso. For those not familiar with the Reverso, the watch head pivots in its brancard. The reverse side of this case is an unadorned, unmarked surface, which is intended for engraving. Case measures 36.5mm long (42.7mm when the lugs are included) by 26.5 mm wide by 9.9mm thick. Sapphire crystal. The reverse side of the brancard is engraved "REVERSO REPETITION MINUTES" along with the case and limited edition numbers and "JAEGER LE COULTRE". Deployant clasp by JLC in 18k rose gold.
Movement is the manual winding Jaeger LeCoultre Caliber 943 with 38 jewels and 306 individual parts - all made in the ateliers of the manufacture.
Dial is silver with grains of rice guilloche, arabic numerals and blued steel sword hands. The dial has a cut away and a component of the striking mechanism is visible (and very nicely accented with two blued screws and two rubies). This gilded disc spins rapidly when the repeater is sounding. Very, very cool!
This Reverso Minute Repeater dates to mid 1990s production, and is in as new condition with box and papers. US Retail price in 1996 was $69,500. Good luck finding another of these rare and very fairly priced minute repeaters from one of the great Swiss houses.
