Description
Rolex decided to modernize the GMT Master II model to celebrate the GMT's 50th anniversary. They really hit a homerun. While the case retains the same dimensions as the previous model (16710), the proportions of the case are considerably more beefed up - the lugs are thicker, the bezel and crown guards are more prominent and robust and, and for the grand finale, Rolex decided to adopt the Trip-Lock crown from the Submariner model. This is a great improvement both from a usability and aesthetic perspective. Another significant upgrade is the ceramic bezel, which is highly scratch resistant and vivid. Finally, the bracelet clasp is dramatically upgraded from the previous version. You know that a watch is spectacular when watch dealers are buying them for their personal wear, and that is just what has happened with the new GMT Master II...!
Case is stainless steel with dimensions of 40mm diameter by 12mm thick. The black ceramic 24 hour bezel turns in both directions and is used in conjunction with the green, arrow-tipped hand which revolves once around the dial during a 24 hour period, to allow tracking a second timezone. Screw down crown and sapphire crystal ensure water resistance to 100 meters.
Dial is black with "Maxi" luminous hour markers and hands and date at 3 o'clock. The 'GMT Master II' text is in green as is the 24 hour hand.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 3185, which features 31 jewels, a free sprung Breguet balance and is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
Bracelet is the Rolex Oyster with upgraded clasp and polished center links.
Watch is 99% new with box and papers. M series.
