The Patek Philippe Caliber 240 Q is just a masterful accomplishment. It is mechanically robust, technically excellent and aesthetically sublime (as evidenced by the Geneva Seal). That it has been produced unchanged for 23 years, prior to the discontinuance of the references 3940 and 5039, says all that needs to be said about this perpetual calendar movement. Over 95% of the production of the caliber was cased in reference 3940 perpetual calendars. The rest were encased in reference 5040s, 5038s, 5039s and 5136s. The 5039 is a rare and important Patek Philippe.
The watches that house the Caliber 240 Q are the quintessential perpetual calendars in the entire watch kingdom, in my opinion. The Caliber 240 Q has a 22k winding rotor, 27 jewels, 275 individual parts, with power reserve of approximately 46 hours. The caliber is engraved with the Geneva Seal, attesting to its technical and aesthetic superiority.
Case is 18Ke white gold and features the classic Hob Nail bezel - a design element invented by Patek - which also serves to disguise scratches wonderfully. While a smooth bezel can be a "scratch magnet", the Hob Nail bezel keeps looking great for ages. Case dimensions are 36mm diameter by 8.5mm thick. Sapphire front and display back crystals. Water resistant to 30 meters.
Dial is silver with applied hour markers and dauphine hands. Dial displays: day, date, month, moonphase, leap year cycle and 24 hour time.
Strap is hand-sewn black premium quality crocodile with a 18k white gold Patek Philippe deployant buckle.
Watch is new, sealed, with box and papers.
