Description
It is safe to say that the Omega Speedmaster, with its remarkable history, is the most famous chronograph in the world.
And although it has been offered in countless different variations over the past 50 years, the basic look of the Omega Speedmaster has changed very little; a testament to the true genious of its design, function and broad appeal.
Our example is a rare and early "Second Generation Speedmaster", reference 2998-1, from circa 1960. This particular version features the dauphine-style "Alpha" hands, which are also present in the three sub-registers.
The large stainless steel case measures 40 mm, excluding the crown. The black tachymeter bezel insert is engraved 500-60 (km/h). The black dial with nicely patinaed luminous baton markers is original and in mint condition.
The Lemania based column wheel movement is the legendary manual wind cal 321, which is still considered one of the best and most reliable chronograph movements ever made. It is in very good working condition and runs very smooth. An inner dust cover gives the movement additional protection from the elements. The domed crystal is acrylic.
This Omega Speedmaster 2998-1 "Alpha Second Generation" is overall in mint condition, and will be delivered with the original and matching "flat links" steel bracelet.
