Description
Everything, and I mean everything, about this watch is clean, mint and original. This is a gorgeous early Rolex Day Date "President".
Case is 18k yellow gold and very mint. Even the webbing is crisp, as are all of the original case lines and the lugs. The fluted bezel is as perfect as the day it left the Rolex factory. Case dimensions are 35mm diameter by 12.4mm thick. Acrylic crystal. Screw down crown operating smoothly and perfectly.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1555 with 25 jewels, adjusted in 5 positions and operating strongly. You will see in the pictures below that the rotor is the desirable "butterfly" type that Rolex used during this period. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
The dial is exquisite! First off, the dial and hands (and everything else on this watch) are original and perfectly clean. This is a "pie pan" dial, where the dial edge slopes away from the main dial surface. The hands are dauphine style and the hour markers are massive and applied (note the 6 and 9 o'clock markers are double sized. The dial color is champagne and there is an ever so slight concentric brush finish to the dial surface.
The case number on this awesome Day Date is 640951 which dates production to 1960/61.
