Description
You know what? This is just an honest vintage Rolex Explorer which looks great on the wrist (it’s on mine now!) and still has a generation or two of service left in it.
Original dial is black with arabic 3-6-9 configuration – the classic, simple and beautifully minimalistic design. Numbers, hour markers and hands all with their original luminous. The dial has a mark on it between the 4 and 5 o’clock positions, but it is not obvious without close inspection.
Original case is stainless steel with dimensions of 36mm diameter by 12mm thick. Acrylic crystal. The case back has some scratching from 38 years of having the bracelet rubbing against it, while the rest of the case is mint and original condition.
Bracelet is a Rolex riveted Oyster with 11 links and will fit up to an 8.25 inch wrist. Bracelet has some stretch but is good for many more years of daily wear.
The bracelet clasp is marked ‘78’ and I believe it is a replacement of the original bracelet.
Serial number 2959XXX dates production to 1970.
Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels and adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. This is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. Condition is extremely clean and running well.
It’s funny; this watch has its warts and is not perfect, but it’s nice in a simple way. I just took off a $24,000 Lange & Sohne to wear it, and that’s saying something.
