Description
Let me start by mentioning that this watch is a piece unique - the only Il Destriero Scafusia with all brushed case finishing. This watch was a special factory order.
Owning a Grand Complication is the horological equivalent of summiting Mount Everest - you can't go higher. Such is the case with this massive 18k yellow gold Grand Complication wristwatch from the International Watch Company. The Il Destriero Scafusia offers minutes repitition, tourbillon, perpetual calendar with moonphase and split seconds rattrapante chronograph. The calendar even offers a four digit year display for millinium, century, decade and year. I'll warn you in advance about the dilemma you will face with this watch: to wear it dial side up or movement side up... the movement in this watch is unbelievably complex and absolutely seductive.
The Il Destriero Scafusia is limited in production to 125 pieces and this is watch number 3X.
Case is solid 18k yellow gold with dimensions of 43mm diameter by 17.2mm thick. The case is massive with a very broad bezel, large repeater slide, crown with sapphire cabachon and chronograph pushers. Domed sapphire crystal in front and flat sapphire display back crystal. The case back is hand decorated and engraved and secured by 6 screws. Again, the case finishing on this piece is all brushed - a uinque watch.
Dial is white enamel with roman numerals and blued hands for time and calendar indicators and red hands for the chronograph displays. The 12 o'clock subdial is for moonphase and the 30 minute chronograph totalizer; 3 o'clock subdial is the date; 6 o'clock subdial is month and 12 hour chronograph totalizer; 9 o'clock subdial is day and constant seconds. The four digit year display is adjacent to 7 o'clock.
Movement is the manual winding IWC Caliber 18680 with 76 jewels, 44 hour power reserve and beating at 28,800 beats per hour. Again, this movement provides: perpetual calendar with moonphase and 4 digit year display, split seconds rattrapante chronograph with 30 minute and 12 hour chronograph totalizers, one minute flying tourbillon, and hour, quarter hour and minute repeater... amazing! Pictures are worth 1000 words, so feast your eyes below. This movement is completely hand finished and hand decorated. It's a gorgeous machine.
Strap is thickly padded IWC brown crocodile with an 18k IWC clasp.
Watch is indistinguishable from new with box and papers.
