Description
Here is an outstanding vintage Rolex Submariner reference 6538, which has become known as the "James Bond". Accept no substitute Bonds! The 6538 is also known as the "Big Crown". This particular watch is from 1958, and features an outstanding original dial and original case with no crown guards and that alluring original huge crown.

Original case is stainless steel with dimensions of 38mm diameter by 15.4mm thick, along with domed acrylic crystal, screw down big crown (operating great) and smoothly turning bezel. Case is in mint condition with fat and even lugs and free of any major markings.

Serial number of this watch is 383XXX dating production to 1958. Inside of case back is stamped 6538 and 1.1958 showing that the watch left the factory in January 1958.

Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1030 with 25 jewels and adjusted for five positions and temperature. Movement is running well and is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. Movement is clean and in excellent condition and is completely free of any corrosion or breakdown of any kind.

Original dial is, in a word, beautiful. Black in color with the most coveted characteristics for a period Submariner dial: minutes chapter with chapter ring, gilt printing and perfect, matching patina on the hour markers. The dial is in absolutely mint condition.

Bracelet is riveted Rolex Oyster with 12 links. Clasp has 2 65 date code, meaning that the watch's original owner probably changed bracelets in 1965 or thereabouts. Bracelet is in mint condition and is extra clean with light stretch.

Nice!
