Let me begin by acknowledging that there is no such thing - yet - as a vintage Rolex Yachtmaster. In fact, until we received this watch today, I had never even reflected on the concept of a vintage Yachtmaster. Take a look at this watch, though, and see if you don't agree with me that this is, if not truly a vintage Yachtmaster, then the closest thing to it.
This is a beautiful watch, with its 18k gold case and bracelet and white with onyx hour markers Yachtmaster dial... with patina! The watch is in 99% new condition and is complete with everything - original inner and outer boxes and all documents and even a linen Rolex handkerchief. The wooden inner box is particularly nice. The whole presentation and aura of this watch and its accessories is special... This is the first time I ever felt this way about a Yachtmaster, and surely the first time I have ever thought about a vintage Yachtmaster and what they will someday look like. Production is 'N' series from 1991, making it 17 years old and on its way toward being a true vintage watch.
Case is 18k solid yellow gold with dimensions of 40mm diameter by 11.5mm thick. It's the uni directional diver's bezel that makes the Yachtmaster so distinctive, with its numbers set in relief from the matte surface. Oversized, solid 18k gold screw down Trip Lock crown and sapphire crystal. The Yachtmaster is water resistant to 100 meters.
Dial is really nice - white with onyx hour markers and "YACHTMASTER" in red. This is an early tritium dial. Note the patinaed arrowheads on the dial, located along the inner edge of the circular hour markers. This is what imparts the vintage look on this watch. In person, the dial is really beautiful.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 3135 with 31 jewels and an approximate power reserve of 50 hours. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
Bracelet is the original 18k Rolex Oyster bracelet with 13 solid links and also solid end links. Bracelet is in 99% condition with zero stretch and will comfortably fit up to an 8.5 inch wrist. Watch is in overall 99% new condition and is complete with everything.
