Description
This is just an ass kicking watch… the original oversized sports watch… from Audemars Piguet (AP), one of the elite Swiss manufacturers. In fact, the Royal Oak was launched by AP in 1972 as a standard time-only watch in stainless steel - but priced like gold. And thus was born the first luxury sports watch. Gerald Genta, the watch's designer, made his reputation on the Royal Oak, which has gone on to be made in many styles, limited editions, and in some rare metals too.
This is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore model 25940 in 18k red gold with rubber bezel, resin coated crown and chronograph pushers, on a rubber strap with 18k AP deployant buckle. At 42mm diameter and 14.7mm thick, this is a masculine timepiece. The case is water resistant to 100 meters.
Dial is grey with Clous de Paris decoration and luminous Arabic numerals and hands. There are 30 minute and 12 hour chronograph totalizer subdials and a date at 3 o'clock.
Movement is the automatic winding AP Caliber 2326/2840 with 54 jewels and a soft iron inner case to protect against magnetic fields.
Watch is truly 99.9% new with box and papers dated April 2012. US Retail Price is $55,500.
