Description
Observant followers of our watches know that I have a love of gold vintage Rolex watches. They exude a warmth of tone and display a degree of character unsurpassed in the world of watches. This particular Cosmograph Daytona is a reference 6264, which is rare, and has a solid 14k yellow gold case. Between the gold case, black bezel insert, creamy gold dial with contrasting black subdials (and contrasting still white print in the subdials) and black crocodile strap, this watch is truly beautiful. Museum beautiful, even.
Original case is 14k yellow gold with dimensions of 38mm diameter by 13.5mm thick. Original 14k gold bezel has a razor sharp edge and still glossy black bezel insert with Units Per Hour scale from ‘50’ to ‘200’. Screw down crown and round pump style chronograph pushers are original and working properly. Condition of the case is mint plus and appears to have the original edges and finishing on all surfaces and is virtually mark free.
Original movement is the manual winding Rolex Caliber 727 with 17 jewels and adjusted to three positions. The caliber features column wheel construction and is in perfect cosmetic and mechanical condition. Chronograph resets crisply and accurately to the zero positions.
Original “Paul Newman” (also known as “Exotic”) dial is creamy gold in color with contrasting black subdials. The subdials in turn have bright white print for enhanced legibility. Original hands are gold. This dial is in perfect, original and untouched condition.
Strap is handmade black Italian crocodile with gold plated vintage Rolex clasp.
