Description
What a rare and beautiful watch this is. First off, to find a reference 1601 Datejust in solid rose gold is rare. In mint+ condition is even rarer. To find one with a smooth bezel is way rare. Are you getting the idea yet, that this watch is rare?
Case is solid 18k rose gold with dimensions of 35.5mm diameter by 12.2mm thick. The bezel is smooth, which as I mentioned, is unusual and much more prized by collectors than the more common fluted bezel. The crystal is the original acrylic with cyclops date magnifier. The original rose gold crown operates perfectly. Inside case back has the model number ‘1601’ engraved.
Serial number 1051XXX dates the watch to 1964.
Dial is white with applied rose gold hour markers and original rose gold hands. The luminous dots next to the hour markers have been reapplied. Other than that, the dial is original and in mint+ condition. Date display is at 3 o’clock.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels, adjusted in 5 positions and for temperature, and featuring Rolex’s unique Microstella balance adjustment system. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. The movement is very clean and running great.
Bracelet is Rolex riveted Oyster in 18k rose gold with 12 links (full length). End links are stamped ‘76’. Bracelet is in mint plus condition.
