Description

In our quest to continue offering rare and historically significant timepieces, we are proud to present this rare Omega Constellation f300hz Electronic chronometer…in solid 18k yellow gold.

The 1970’s changed the face of the watch world, as we knew it back then, with the introduction of quartz regulated, electronic watches, which set a new standard for accuracy and minimal maintenance requirements.

Unfortunately, the “Advent of Quartz” almost wiped out the high end watch industry , which had been comfortably relying on the strength of their mechanical time pieces and tradition up to that point.

This crisis in traditional horology almost rendered several legendary watch manufacturers extinct, and in fact was the death knell for many others.

Omega was one of the few, who had successfully transitioned to the electronic age by introducing one of the most accurate electronic movements ever created; the f300hz Chronometer Electronic, caliber 1250 “MOSABA” (MOntre SAns BAlancier – watch without balance), which achieved the then unheard of accuracy of staying within 30 seconds/per month with the aid of a vibrating tuning fork at the rate of 300 times per second!

Omega equipped their top-of the-line Constellation with this stellar movement, offering the basic steel version for $ 155.00 and the 18k gold version for $ 2350.00… in 1970!

Our example is the latter version, Omega Constellation Chronometer Electronic f 300HZ, in solid 18k yellow gold, with original 18k solid gold bracelet, complete with box and papers. The best part, however, is the fact that this offering is in absolutely NOS, 100% unworn condition!

We were amazed when we came across this Omega in such fine condition and with such extensive provenance; even when we opened he original box, it seemed that it had trapped the aroma and scent of that very precise moment on October 6, 1972, when this watch was first sold and the papers dated. It almost sent us into an immediate time warp to 1972…amazing!

What else can we say about this beauty? The solid 18k yellow case is flawless, measuring 35.5 mm in diameter and features an integrated 18k solid integrated bracelet, which was also the first truly integrated bracelet to be offered by any manufacturer at that time.

The stunning two-tone gold and champagne dial features solid gold baton marker with inlaid onyx, and a red sweep center seconds hand along with a raised gold Omega logo surrounded by a red trapeze. The date window is placed at the 3 o’clock position.

The very finely fluted 18k bezel majestically surrounds the dial and creates a perfect balance between the dial, case and bracelet.

The movement, as mentioned, is the Chronometer MOSABA, which vibrates at 300hz and keeps accurate time as one would expect from an example as clean as this! The movement is running perfectly.

Completing this wonderful time piece are the original gold Omega presentation box, and all booklets, along with the name, address of the buyer and the date of purchase, which are entered in one of the booklets.

In other words, you will go your entire collecting career without finding another vintage Omega chronometer f 300hz electronic in this condition and completeness.

Don’t hesitate on this one!
