Description
These brown dial GMT Masters with their dark brown and gold bezels were produced in much smaller numbers than their black dialed counterparts. This watch looks great, and the case is still in original unpolished condition.
Original case is stainless steel with original solid gold bezel. The bezel insert is also original, and features the brown and gold insert, which is very clean. The bezel turns freely and with just the perfect amount of friction. Dimensions are 40mm diameter by 12.7mm thick. The crystal is acrylic. The original solid gold crown screws down and is operating perfectly. The case is in mint+ original condition The case edges are a treat to look at, with their original factory bevels.
Serial number 2557XXX dates production to 1970. Inside case back has a date stamp of ‘II.70”.
Original dial is brown with applied gold hour markers. This type of dial, with the pyramid hour markers, is known amongst collectors as a “nipple dial”. This dial is in mint+ perfect, original and untouched condition. The original gold hands are in fantastic condition and match the dial perfectly.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels and adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. I believe we cracked this case open for the first time since 1970. The movement is immaculate and the watch is running well.
This beautiful GMT Master is on a brown Shell Cordovan strap. Shell Cordovan makes the perfect watch strap because unlike other leather straps, Shell Cordovan becomes softer and more comfortable with age and has an extremely long life, and is the most water resistant leather strap. We put a vintage gold plated Rolex buckle on the strap.
This watch is mint+ and a joy to behold.
