Description
The Las Vegas Strip is famous for its lights. It’s really a spectacular sight, if you haven’t been, with all of the lights and the great water show in front of the Bellagio Hotel. Well, when Audemars Piguet produced this limited edition (60 made) Royal Oak Offshore “Las Vegas Strip”, they supplied the Las Vegas light show with the diamonds on the case – 369 diamonds to be exact, which add up to approximately 6 carats.
Case is 18k white gold with dimensions of 44mm wide by 53.5mm long by 14.7mm thick. Crystal is sapphire. In addition to the diamonds set into the famous Royal Oak octagonal bezel, the structural white gold screws are also visible, which hold the case together. The crown and chronograph pushers are covered with a black compound to make them more durable and also easier to grip.
I’ll tell you what, the diamond work on this case is outstanding. I read AP’s press release about this watch and I am doing to excerpt it here, because they do a better job than I can elaborating the skill and dedication that went into making this over the top bomb of a case:
“Each of the myriad precious gems is painstakingly matched for cut, color and clarity before being set with the utmost attention to detail. A careful examination of the diamonds in the bezel, for instance, reveals that each is a slightly different size so as to precisely bridge the difference between the perfect circle of the inner bezel and the octagonal geometry of the outer bezel. The flawless decoration of each white gold component extends to the Audemars Piguet folding clasp as well.”
Take a look at the hinges that connect the strap to the watch and the buckle – completely covered in diamonds and done PERFECTLY. Most impressive.
The dial is black with red numerals and luminous hands. The engraved pattern on the dial is called Mega Tapisserie. The scales on the subdials are also in red, as are the seconds and subdial hands. Date is displayed at 3 o’clock.
Movement is the automatic winding Audemars Piguet chronograph Caliber 3126/3840.
Strap is black handsewn AP crocodile with exposed red stitching. Clasp is an 18k white gold “AP” shaped deployant clasp, which as the picture below shows, is also diamond set.
Watch is brand new with box and papers (dated September 2010).
