Description
Now this is a rare vintage Patek Philippe Calatrava. It’s also very interesting. Please skip below to the picture that shows the engraving on the case back. I love these sorts of engravings – they make each watch a one of a kind with a nostalgic aspect that can not be duplicated.
In addition, of course, this vintage Calatrava was retailed by Cartier, which is evidenced not only by the original, untouched Cartier Patek Philippe signed dial but also by Cartier’s engraved serial number on the back of the 5 o’clock lug (see picture below).
The case on this watch is also charming – solid 18k yellow gold with large claw style lugs. The original case measures 35.5mm diameter by 8.3mm thick. The crystal is bombe.
Original and untouched Cartier Patek Philippe dial is silver with brush finish and applied golden hour markers and Arabic numbers. The original golden hands are more or less Feuille style, but with a unique twist on that theme. Subsidiary seconds dial. Note the 6 o’clock marker is a simple dot, while the other non arabic markers are simple indexes. There is also a printed minutes chapter.
Movement is the manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 10’’’- 200 with 18 jewels, Breguet balance spring, and adjusted to 8 positions.
This interesting vintage Patek Philippe Calatrava is on a modern black Patek crocodile strap with 18k modern Patek tang buckle.
