Description
Here is a vintage Rolex Explorer II orange hand “Steve McQueen” from 1975. On these Explorer II watches, in the middle of their production period, the orange hand started becoming reddish in color, as is the case with this watch. This is a good example of a mid production 1655, from 1975, which illustrates how the dial changed: namely, the font changed from a “slab serif” to the serif style font shown in the pictures below, and the shape of the Rolex crown on the dial also changed to this more elongated version.
Original stainless steel case measures 38mm diameter by 14mm thick. The original bezel maintains its sharp edge and is in excellent condition. Original screw down crown operates as it should. Although the case shows wear, it is overall excellent to mint condition.
Serial number 4302XXX dates production of this watch to 1975.
Original black dial has nice, even patina on its luminous and is in excellent to mint condition. Date display at 3 o’clock.
Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels, adjusted to 5 positions and temperature, and is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chromoter.
Bracelet is the Rolex Oyster reference 78390 with ‘401B’ end links, 12 bracelet links and is in excellent condition. Clasp is flip-lock deployant.
