Description
I feel the need to preface all of my descriptions of Jaeger LeCoultre watches by making the same statement: Jaeger LeCoultre should raise the prices of their watches. Why? Because the quality of JLC’s designs, calibers, materials and finished product are at the top of Swiss horology, but collectors conclude the watches are second rate based on the price. Nothing could be further from the truth. Jaegers are beautiful watches with horological bonafides no different from Patek Philippe, Breguet, A. Lange & Sohne, Vacheron Constantin, etc..

This Grand Reveil is from the Master collection, which means that each watch gets tested for 1000 hours before it leaves the factory.

The Master Grand Reveil is a perpetual calendar with moonphase paired with JLC’s loud alarm complication… all in a massive 18k rose gold case.

The solid 18k rose gold case measures 48mm diameter by 56.5mm long (lug tip to lug tip) by 21.5mm thick. The case is entirely mirror polished with the exception of the center of the case back, which has a finely granulated finish and which looks like a miniature coin with serrated edge. The crystal is sapphire. The case has two crowns, the upper of which is to wind and set the alarm while the lower crown winds and sets the hands of the watch. The large button on the left hand side of the case, which looks like a minute repeater slide, is actually the on and off button for the alarm (the off position being a setting where the alarm vibrates instead of rings). If you don’t know how alarm watches sound, the case backs of alarm watches are made in such a way to maximize the propagation of the alarm sound.

The dial is silvered with rose gold dauphine hands and applied hour markers. The 3 o’clock subdial displays the day; the 6 o’clock subdial displays the moon phase and 24 hour time; the 9 o’clock subdial displays the date and the 12 o’clock subdial displays month and also the 4 digit year. The display between the 10 and 11 o’clock positions shows if the alarm function is set to alarm or vibration. The alarm hand is the white hand with the red tip. Note that the moonphase display shows the moonphase in both the northern and southern hemispheres.

Movement is the automatic winding Jaeger LeCoultre Caliber 909 with 36 jewels and beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Once again, this movement has been tested by JLC for 1,000 hours for accuracy. Movement has 363 individual parts and is the only perpetual calendar that I know of to provide the year in four digits.

Watch is on a dark brown JLC alligator strap with 18k JLC deployant clasp.
