Description
I had a business meeting many years ago in Madrid with a consultant who was wearing a Cartier watch with a moonphase display. That was before I was a watch junkie, but still the watch made an impression on me. After all of these years, this is the first Cartier with a moonphase I have encountered since that dinner. So, we bought it and here it is.
“Santos de Cartier” is the full model name which is engraved on the case back along with gold hallmarks and the watch’s model and serial numbers. Based on the serial number of 73X, Cartier never made many of these watches.
The 18k gold case is square with rounded corners, brush finished everywhere except for the polished bezel, crown with blue sapphire cabochon, and the exposed screw heads in the bracelet. The bracelet is brush finished and will fit up to an 8 inch wrist. Bracelet has folding deployant clasp. Case measures 40.6mm long lug tip to lug tip by 30mm wide by 6.8mm thick. Sapphire crystal.
Movement is a Cartier quartz caliber for accurate and trouble free timekeeping.
Dial is matte silver with printed roman numerals, blued sword style hands, moonphase display and date hand with corresponding date chapter.
This is a rare and very attractive watch for a man or a woman and is in new condition.
